Archaeology 101

This is my newest NEXT:

Mid-January, with tripping heart and fearful trepidation, I stepped into the Bergole Archaeological Center in Borrego Springs.  I was greeted and seated and I'm still reeling from the amount of information and fun one girl can have.  Every Thursday night and Friday since then, have become the most precious of days and nights (except of course those spent with my kids and grandbabies).  We learn and plot and walk and survey, measure, en-compass, gps and break for lunch.

We drive vast distances, hold our bladders, while staying hydrated then stay up late to finish reports and plot our finds on maps.  I can now explain a 7.5 minute map, compass directions, temper (not mine but a potsherds) and tell you what pinion nuts, Mesquite beans and roasted yucca taste like.  I can tell a slick from a boulder a potsherd from a rock, a tool from a tumbled cobble, a mano from a hot rock!!!

As one of my new archaeo-pals said, "Archaeology is slowly taking over my life"!  I'm with you Eugenie, and bring it on.  This is a blast!
